I had nothing to do. I felt I had no future. I was looking forward a phone call from my husband who called only once a week. He wrote once a month and every three months he sent money for his father. Every time, he promised that he will be back soon. I had nothing to do but tapestry, going to needlepoint class or read novels. Two years after my marriage, my little sister graduated from high school then started university. I saw her passing me fast and I was still waiting with no future. During all those days my mother was my only companion. She always pampered and helped me put those days behind. Although she did not approve Naser's travel but she never mentioned it to me. Not even once. All she did was kindness and understanding. I remember one night I was sitting by the pound in our backyard thinking about my misery, she came in her Chador, sat by me and put my head on her lap. she started telling me kind words as if she had realized how down I was feeling. At that moment, an ant started walking on my hand, I tossed it away, my
mother asked:
- What was it?
- Nothing, it was an ant walking on my hand.
She smiled and bent her hand down around me. After few seconds in silence she said:
- You know, at times I think to myself when ants walk
